Behind the Design

As a proud LSU alum, and grandson of a WWII veteran, I am keenly aware of our flagship university’s strong military ties. Evidence can be seen across campus, from the Oak Grove south of the Student Union to the Memorial Tower rising above the Parade Grounds. The most obvious of these military symbols are the two brass cannons located outside of the Military Science Building, a mere 500 feet from Tiger Stadium. They were donated to LSU from its first superintendent, General William Tecumseh Sherman, after the Civil War, and are the focal point of our Ole War Skule patterns. My hope is to honor and bring awareness to those men and women that have and are currently fighting for our freedom, while proudly representing LSU.
